Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions we have in the salon. If you have further questions please call and a member of the team will be happy to help.

How long will my dog's grooming session take?

You can expect your dog to be with us for appropriately 1.5 to 2 hours for most grooms. We will give you a time for collection but ask that you are always contactable whilst your dog is in our care. We please ask for your kind cooperation with timings to limit your dog waiting un necessarily in the salon.

Can I stay with my dog during their groom?

We understand it is hard to leave your dog especially for the first time but in our experience we find that the dogs settle much easier without their owners present and it can also upset other dogs that are being groomed in the salon if someone else they don’t know is present.. If you would like to stay close we have the lovely Chelsea Road a short 2 minute walk away with local small shops and cafes to visit whilst you are waiting.

Can I bring my own shampoo?

Yes we can use your own products if you prefer.

My dog doesn't like being groomed will you still do it and do you use muzzles?

Unfortunately not all dogs will enjoy being groomed. The best way to help us help you and your dog us being truthful and to give us as much information as you can when booking. This allows us to see if and how we can accommodate your situation. We may use muzzles as a safety measure if we feel safety is compromised for your dog, ourselves or others. Please note they are not used as a punishment . Our aim is to work with you and your dog do we can teach your dog to learn to accept and even like the process.

Do you ever refuse to groom a dog?

It is rare but it can happen. If we feel your dog is not suited to our environment we will advise you. It is nothing personal but when accepting dogs we have to think of ourselves and other dogs in the salon and access the whole situation . We want our salon to be a calm, happy environment for all our clients and thus is our priority. If we feel your dog us un suitable for this we will advise you and possibly not be able to groom them in our salon.

My dog is very nervous can you accommodate that?

Yes. We work one to one with dogs and although we are not as quiet as lone groomers we have the bonus of an extra groomer if needed to lend a hand. Although people think quiet is better for dogs sometimes this isn’t the case as ot can enhance the experience. Distraction tends to work very well with these dogs but if a quiet time is what you need then an early or later appointment is best and we can also accommodate this for you.

My dog is very noisy is that ok?

It really does depend on how noisy as it can be very disruptive in the salon for other clients. Generally we would ask you stay close so can collect your dog as soon as they are ready.

Is there parking nearby?

We are on a residential area. At present there are no permits but we do ask you to consider our neighbours when parking your car.

How often should my dog come?

Depending on the breed, style, budget and how much maintenance you can do at home. All of these should be considered when choosing a style. Some breeds may need as often as 4 weeks some can go 12 weeks or more. We can help and advise on this for you and work on a style best suited for your requirements.

Will my dog be put in a pen?

We try to have our timings so they are only in a pen for a very short time but we do use them for safety. A majority of the dogs love it and fall asleep as they get used to it with part of their grooming routine. If you do not wish your dog to be in one please inform us when booking. An early morning appointment will be the easiest for us to accommodate for you . You will also be advised to stay close so you can collect as soon as your dog is ready.

I need to cancel or I forgot my appointment. Will I be charged?

Yes if under 24 hours notice is given we charge a fee. Late cancellation and no shows impact our small business immensely and completely disrupts the day. You can call us, email or message us. All cancellation fees must be paid prior to rebooting along with a deposit.

I tried to call but your phone is busy.

We get very busy and when the groomers are working on a dog we do not like to stop mid groom to answer calls . We understand this may be frustrating for you but it is importantthat we prioritise the dogs we are working on.. We always return messages and constantly check our messages. We are also contactable via email and Facebook and WhatsApp.

I wanted my dog groomed this week but you have no appointments?

Most clients have a grooming schedule and book in advance. Once you have an idea of your dogs schedule we recommend doing this so you are not left disappointed. We always have a cancellation list running and help as many clients as we possibly can especially during busy times so it is always worth going on that .

Do you express anal glands?

We do not recommend glands being emptied unless your dog is showing signs of discomfort for example scooting their bottoms. If there are obvious signs we can check them and if they empty easily without discomfort we can do this for you externally or we may advise to see your vet regarding them. A good diet is the best way to help your dog to keep healthy anal glands.

Do you pluck my dogs ears?

There is now evidence coming through saying over plucking ears can cause infections and discomfort to the dog. We can remove hair that comes away easily without causing discomfort to help keep on top of them but generally we are advised to not over pluck the hair. For some dogs they really don’t like this being done so it can upset them for their grooming sessions. We advise to talk to your veterinary surgeon regarding this if you have concerns.

I am late for my appointment will you still groom my dog?

We will always try our very best to accommodate but in some situations we cannot offer this as it may effect the next clients appointment. In this situation you will incur it will be treated as a cancellation and a fee will be incurred.

I am late collecting my dog, is that ok?

We understand that sometimes it is hard to be prompt. If you feel you may run late please inform us. If your dog is unsettled you may incur a sitting fee to cover the time of a member of staff and inconvenience caused.

They're so lovely with our anxious greyhound. He goes for his bath every few months here and loves it. Rachel is really sensitive and experienced, built his confidence up at a pace he was happy with, and was really upfront with us about what might be possible and at what speed. Now when we turn up for his bath his tail doesn't stop wagging!

Great with our nervous, grumpy schnauzer! He always looks fab and is will looked after at Millionhairs. They have been brilliant during COVID - so careful and kept everyone safe, but also really focused on keeping dogs comfortable and well. Very highly recommended.
