MILLIONHAIRS DOG GROOMING TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions are put in place to cover the health and safety of the dogs in our care, clients and of our team members at Millionhairs Dog Grooming. They are to be read and agreed by the owner before Millionhairs Dog Grooming can commence work on your dog’s groom.

HEALTH AND WELFARE

It must be clearly understood and agreed that whilst we are a fully insured salon, and although we give your dog our upmost care and attention while they are with us that occasionally an accident may occur. Working on any live animal will always hold an element of risk. Extreme care and caution are taken during a groom but occasionally scratches, nicks, cuts or quickening of the nails may occur during a groom. This is to be understood by the owner.

The owner agrees that their dog is fit and healthy enough to attend their grooming session.

Grooming of any dog, especially but not limited to elderly dogs or dogs that have health concerns/behaviour issues, is entirely at the owners’ risk. It is imperative for owners to notify us of any concerns or issues prior to their appointment commencing. This enables us to evaluate the situation and to accommodate where necessary. The grooming procedure may reveal undiagnosed skin or health conditions that Millionhairs Dog Grooming cannot be held liable for. Millionhairs Dog Grooming reserves the right to refuse a dog for grooming if we feel it presents a risk to itself or others.

Our priorities are with the welfare of your dog, so in the unlikely event of any health issues, illness or injury, a vet may be called for advice or we may need to attend a veterinary practice for administrative care on your behalf. Unless it can be clearly proven that we are liable, all costs in connection to this will be at the owner’s expense. We always recommend that your dog is insured. In the event that we are unable to contact your registered vet, or in an emergency situation, it must be understood that we will seek assistance from our own local veterinary practise, (Bath Veterinary Clinic) It is paramount that we are updated with any medical concerns (past or present) and that you provide us your own vet’s details in the event we may need to contact them.

ELDERLY DOGS AND/OR DOGS WITH HEALTH CONDITIONS

These dogs run a higher risk of possible complications during their grooming session. For example and not limited to, skin and coats may change and become thinner over time causing more sensitivity, or joints can become sore so they may struggle to stand or be handled for longer periods and some health conditions may also minimise the grooming they can cope with.

Haircuts and styles may have to be adapted to help keep grooming sessions to a minimum and to help keep them as comfortable and safe as possible. We will always discuss with you and explain what we think is the best approach for your dog, and why. It is especially important in these circumstances that owners are easily contactable, and we may also ask owners to stay in the surrounding local area during grooming in case their presence is required at short notice.

In some circumstances where we feel the dog is no longer coping with grooming Millionhairs Dog Grooming reserve the right to discontinue services a dog if we feel it is unsafe and all other options have been explored. This will be discussed with the owner and our help and guidance will be given for future grooming care.

Muzzles

In some situations it may be necessary for the use of a muzzle to enable us to safely complete a groom. If we feel it is needed, it is solely to provide safety for both the dog and the groomer. We only use muzzles with enough space to allow your dog to pant, and they are only used for short periods, no longer than absolutely necessary. They are not a punishment, but instead an aid to completing a safe groom. We do not use muzzles on a dog if they become stressed by wearing them, but in these circumstances we may not be able to complete a groom.

Vaccinations

It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure their dog is up to date with their vaccinations/flea/

worming/kennel cough/titre testing treatments to ensure the safety of both their own dog and other dogs attending the salon. A dog that is not up to date can be a risk to itself, our staff and other dogs attending the salon. Millionhairs Dog Grooming cannot be held liable for the contraction of any of the preventable diseases/parasites whilst on our premises.

If a dog is found to have fleas, we can treat with an appropriate shampoo and advise you to your vet for further preventative treatments. You will incur an extra fee to cover costs of the treatment and any further costs incurred by the salon involving decontamination.

Matting Policy

Matts cause pain by pulling on the skin; they make the skin more fragile and prone to injury. Matts also reduce blood supply to the skin of the areas they are attached to.

Brushing moderate to severe matts out would breach animal welfare, it would cause great

discomfort and the dog would be required to stand on the table for a much longer period. If

the matts cannot be easily brushed out, clipping is the safest and kindest way to remove them. Removing with scissors runs a high risk of cutting the skin and causing a wound.

Clipping the coat short puts wellbeing at the forefront of the groom, so although it may mean your dog will not look as you wish, they will be comfortable. We can then work with you on coat maintenance if you wish to keep a longer style in the future. This would also require a regular grooming schedule.

Sometimes old scabs, hotspots which are areas of wet eczema, skin tags and warty growths maybe hiding under the matted coat as well as fleas. We will do our best to identify these prior to clipping but there is a risk the clippers may aggravate a pre-existing skin problem.

Some hairy dogs who have had to be shaved short may feel quite different post-groom and some may appreciate a jumper for the first few days as they adjust.

Matt ing causes the skin to become extremely sensitive and fragile, which in turn increases the risk of clipper rash post-groom. We work hard to prevent this from happening, but the risk is high when matts pull on the skin and is not due to our grooming technique.

Another risk matts pose is the formation of a haematoma, often found on the ears. The lack of blood supply to an affected area and the fragile skin can mean when the matt is removed there is an increased blood to that area which can ooze from the fragile skin. This can lead to a small loss of blood, commonly seen on the ear tips. It is a risk of removing a matt, not a grooming injury. Sometimes the bleeding can occur when you collect the

dog as blood pressure increases with excitement. This will usually settle down once they are calm.

Please be aware that photographs of any matting, skin problems and formation of aural haematomas will be photographed, you may request to see them. We will keep them for our records only.

PLEASE NOTE MILLIONHAIRS DOG GROOMING WILL ALWAYS DISCUSS ANY EXTREME MATTING BEFORE CLOSE CLIPPING COMMENCES . SOMETIMES MATTING MAY NOT BE OBVIOUS UNTIL GROOMING PROCESS BEGINS . THIS IS WHY IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT OWNERS MUST BE CONTACTABLE AT ALL TIMES WHILST THEIR DOGS ARE IN OUR CARE .EXTRA TIME INCURRED WILL BE CHARGED FOR. THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT AN EASY OPTION AND WILL ONLY BE PERFORMED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY FOR YOUR DOGS HEALTH AND WELFARE.

ALLERGIES

We only use high quality, natural products in our salon, but if you’d prefer to bring your own (whether that be for medical reasons such as allergies, or personal choice) we are more than happy to use them in replacement. We can give further information about any of our products on request. We also provide natural treats for your dog during their groom, but if you’d prefer to bring your own treats (or have us not give treats at all) please feel free to do so. Please make sure to inform us of these requests when you drop off your dog for their grooming appointment, as we will add it to our records for future reference.

CONTACT

It is of upmost importance that your contact details are always kept up to date, and it is essential that you are easily contactable when your dog is in our care.

BEHAVIOUR

For the safety of your dog, other dogs in the salon, and our groomers, you must make us aware of any behaviour / temperament / grooming history / age related / medical concerns that may affect the grooming process. This is vital to enable us to accommodate your dog to the best of our abilities.

If at any time during your dog’s grooming session we feel it is unsafe to continue, we may have to stop the groom. In this case, we will contact you and advise on the situation, and a charge may be applied towards the grooming we were able to carry out.

We kindly ask you to be as prompt as possible for both the dropping off and collection of your dog. If you think you may be late, please contact us as soon as possible so we can try to accommodate. Sometimes, it may be the case that we no longer have enough time to groom your dog, which may result in a cancellation fee.

Additionally, a sitting charge may be incurred if a member of staff has to sit with your dog while waiting to be collected (this is generally the case for dogs who do not settle in their pens post-groom). We ask you to please be considerate in your timings whenever possible.
